Second Art Salon

I hung some of my paintings at an art salon today. Suzanne Saint Onge and Tom O'Farrell deserve many thanks for hosting it in their home. Artists, poets, and musicians came and the salon was a lot of fun!

Orange

I based this 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" watercolor on the painting that I posted yesterday. I took the basic forms of the fruit and bowl and painted them more abstractly. This painting is more about the colors and the shapes than about the real objects that I was working from.

BLT

At 15" by 22," this is the largest watercolor that I've painted in years. It was really difficult, but I think it turned out really well!

Hopkin's Creek Marsh 1-14-11

A 10" by 14" watercolor loosely based on the same sketch as my last two posts. This is a lighter paper than I usually use, and it bubbled up a lot when I got it wet. I think that worked to my advantage, though, and added depth to the trees.

Hopkin's Creek Marsh 1-15-11

Another version of the same marsh scene that I posted yesterday. I worked from the same watercolor sketch. 20" by 20" Oil on Canvas

Hopkin's Creek Marsh 1-11-11

This is a 20" by 20" oil on canvas painting of the marsh in Hopkin's Creek. I worked from a watercolor sketch that I painted one summer and posted here at the address below. I love the watercolor so much that I keep going back and painting from it in oil.

Red and Yellow

Two postcard-size watercolors.
Roger, the studio cat, has developed the bad habit of jumping up on tables. Amazing, given his arthritis. He almost landed on my palette full on wet paint yesterday! If he succeeds, I think I'll turn him into a brush ;)

Red, Yellow, and Blue

7" x 9" Watercolor. I'm really starting to like this series of red tomatoes and yellow lemons on blue pottery.
